Meet Bear – A Brave Little Soul Looking for His Forever Home
Bear is a stunning 6 month-old crossbreed with a story that makes him very special. He was found alone, at the side of the road, in December 2025, in Romania. Winters are very cold in Romania so he was extremely lucky to be found at all. His finder happened to run a dog rescue shelter to his luck was in that day! He was put with 6 other puppies who had been found in a box only two days previously. Daniel (the rescuer) has worked with Islay Dog Rescue previously so we were pleased to offer to help all of the pups. Unfortunately, two of the "box puppies" didn't survive but the others, including Bear, were brought safely to the UK for a second chance at life.
Bear is a big lad already and will grow to be a chunk of a dog!
He has now been in foster care for the past three weeks. In that short time, his fosterers have already started to see small but incredibly meaningful improvements in his confidence.
Although Bear is still generally wary of men, he is beginning to learn that people can be kind and safe. He will now willingly approach the man in his foster home for attention when the other dogs do, and recently, while out on a walk, Bear even pushed in for fusses from an unfamiliar man who was stroking the other dogs he lives with — a huge step forward for this gentle young boy, who would usually prefer strangers to give him space.
Bear gets on wonderfully with the resident dogs in his foster home. He travels well in the car, enjoys exploring new places, and absolutely loves snuggling up on the sofa once he feels comfortable.
He has also been embracing new experiences with growing confidence. A recent trip to Pets At Home was a big success, where he happily explored all the exciting smells and sights. Thanks to a recent growth spurt, he even came home with a brand-new bigger harness!
At home, Bear is completely house-trained and happily goes outside to do his business. Once settled in one of his safe spaces, he really enjoys training sessions and has quickly learned “sit” and “down” in exchange for one of his favourite treats — ham!
As Bear settles, his cheeky and affectionate personality is beginning to shine through. He loves proudly carrying “treasures” from the garden into the house, including stones, bark and bits of plants, as if showing off his latest discoveries.
One of Bear’s absolute favourite things is visiting his foster sister’s dog-free home for sleepovers, where he gets all the attention, shares her snacks, and stretches out beside her on the bed for a peaceful night’s sleep.
Bear is looking for a quiet, child-free home with a patient and understanding adopter who will allow him to continue building confidence at his own pace. Ideally, he would love a confident resident dog to help guide him and show him the world isn’t so scary.
With time, kindness and reassurance, Bear is going to make an incredibly loyal and loving companion.
Bear is fully vaccinated, microchipped, treated for parasites, and has been tested for Brucella. He also has her APHA certificate. His adopter will be required to sign a neutering agreement.
His adoption fee is £500, which goes directly toward helping save more dogs like Bear.
Could you be the forever home this amazing puppy has been waiting for?
