Meet Hugo
Hugo is a stunning 4-year-old American Bulldog weighing 32kg, who came into the care of Islay Dog Rescue through no fault of his own following a change in his family’s circumstances.
Hugo has lived in a family home and can live with dog-savvy children who understand and respect his space and boundaries.
He is a lovely boy on the lead and enjoys getting out and about for long walks. He also loves playing chase with his toys and, as a strong and energetic boy, he will thrive with an active family who can keep him physically and mentally stimulated.
Hugo can live with cats providing careful and appropriate introductions are carried out. He also travels well in the car, making him a great companion for adventures further afield.
Hugo is a wonderfully social dog, full of charm and enthusiasm, but that same enthusiasm can tip into over‑friendly, boisterous behaviour around other dogs. He isn’t aggressive — just a big, strong lad who throws his whole heart into every interaction — yet this can be overwhelming for calmer or more sensitive dogs. Because of this, we feel he would be happiest and most settled as the only dog in the home, where he can enjoy all the attention, structure, and guidance he needs to thrive.
Hugo is a clever boy who already knows some basic commands, including sit, down and paw. He absolutely loves his treats — especially chicken and ham! — which will be a great help when continuing his training and teaching him new skills.
He can also be left home alone for four or more hours without any issues.
Since arriving at kennels, Hugo has adjusted remarkably well. His big personality and affectionate nature have allowed him to quickly form strong bonds with staff and volunteers. He is a sociable, loving boy who enjoys being around people.
As is typical of his breed, Hugo is a strong and sociable dog who will flourish in an active home. He needs a family who will include him in physical activities, walks and playtime, while also providing plenty of mental stimulation through enrichment games, training and positive interaction.
Hugo has so much love and potential to give. He is looking for someone who can offer him the time, ongoing training, patience and dedication he needs to meet his physical and mental needs.
Hug is fully vaccinated, microchipped, treated for parasites, assessed and neutered.
His adoption fee is £400, which goes directly towards helping rescue and care for dogs just like her.
