UPDATE as of 13th February 2025

Well, what a change in Nalani!!  As you will read below Nalani had presented some problems interacting with other dogs.  However, we implemented a socialisation programme for her and she is simply a SUPER STAR !!  Over the past few weeks Nalani has achieved the following :-

1. She initially walked out with Ruffles and thoroughly enjoyed herself.

2. We built on that and she has taken part in a couple of small group walks - again excelling herself.

3. She recently visiting the Cumnock Women's Guild meeting where she was the star of the show.  Although a little stressed at the beginning she quickly made herself popular by asking for affection then, bored with the speaking, fell asleep on a comfy coat!

Nalani would be better with an experienced dog owner or a willing-to-learn 1st time dog owner.  With the correct introductions she could, we believe, happily live with another dog - preferably male and calm natured.  She is the most affectionate dog you could imagine.  If you feel you could offer her a home, please complete the form below.

ORIGINAL WRITE UP

Nalani is a Romanian dog and was saved from a kill shelter.  When she first arrived she mixed well with the other dogs and presented no problems.  It was wise to keep an eye on things but there were never any real issues.  She was adopted and left the rescue for around a fortnight.  During this time it was clear she had lived in a house at some point and, for the most part, she settled in.  However, after a week or so she became bossy in the house.

To be fair, most dogs do this.  They are pushing the boundaries to see how far they can get - rather like children!  Despite being very fond of Nalani, her new family felt this was not something they could cope with.  Her antics included trying to take over her new mums bed at night time and she also growled at an elderly visitor.  Unfortunately, after a week or two, Nalani came back to the rescue.

Since her return she has not settled.  She has become very reactive to other dogs and this is managed carefully.  We are implementing a training programme and she is doing well with this and demonstrating success so fingers crossed we will get her back to her old, happy self.

Nalani needs a quiet home, perhaps sharing it with a calm male dog providing introductions go well.  She does have a bit of a "guardy" nature and would, we think, become very protective of her family.  This is something that would need careful control and understanding.

Personality wise - she is affectionate, quick on the uptake, food motivated, good in the car and loves to play in the arena with a ball.  She walks well on the lead, knows how to sit, watch me, wait and give a paw.

She is neutered, microchipped, treated for parasites, assessed and health checked.  Potential adopters would be asked to visit a few times to build a relationship with her.
