Approx Age: 11 months
UPDATE
When Max first arrived here he was suffering from a whole host of psychological issues. He was totally unsocialised and extremely reactive to cars, dogs and people.
Now we paint a different picture. What an absolutely amazing dog he is !!
He regularly goes to Dumfries House for walks and passes other dogs without issue. As you can see in the pictures he has a friend at the rescue (the owners dog so not for adoption) and they play, play, play!! He was been walking with Puma, Tyson, Leanna, Meg to name a few.
He not longer reacts to passing traffic and simply lies on the verge when he sees traffic approach and watches it until it has passed.
Max travels well in the car and loves a jaunt out. He is fully vaccinated, microchipped, treated for parasites and assessed. However, he is NOT neutered as he is only 11 months old and he has not been in a suitable psychological place to have that operation. He will be rehomed with a neutering contract and we will require the owners to ensure he is neutered at an appropriate time.
Max would benefit from living with a fun loving, female dog (as long as she is spayed!!)
His adoption fee is £400 which goes directly to saving the lives of dogs just like Max.
Border Collie fans please form a queue!
Max was a Christmas puppy who went to a home to live with another border collie and young children. Unfortunately he proved too much for the family and they handed him into rescue. It was clear that Max had received no socialisation at all and was unable to walk on a lead. Initially he barked at everybody and every other dog and when we tried to walk him he spun around continually. He was also extremely reactive to passing traffic - dangerously so!
However, everybody here has dedicated a lot of time to Max and this magnificent boy is 100% different now. We moved him to a kennel where he could see everybody and each time anybody passed his kennel he was rewarded with a tasty treat. As far as traffic goes, we made nuisances of ourselves in the local Asda car park and spent lots of time there allowing him to acclimatise to slow passing traffic and people walking by. This was time well spent. He is now generally fine with all people and when walking along the country road here he lies down and watches the traffic pass - with no reaction.
He plays well in the arena and loves to chase a ball but he is an extremely affectionate dog who would gaze into your eyes for hours. That being said, he is a typical Border Collie and is very high energy. Although he now walks on the lead without spinning he does pull and would need some work on that.
Our staff and volunteers have taught him how to sit, lie down and give a paw. He now enjoys a couple of walks each day as well as arena time.
He has been to Dumfries House and was a superstar, he has been taken to the Leadhills with one of our volunteers and played in the burn with his dog. He ADORES Gaille at the rescue and they play extremely well together.
This amazing wee dog has eventually trusted us and has come a long way. He is now ready for his next step - a new human.
Please do NOT apply to adopt him unless you are fully committed to continuing his education and training. He will not move into a new home and slot in without a lot of work and understanding. He is not keen to use the back part (sleeping area) of his kennel and spends all his time in the run. This means he toilets where he sits/lies. We are unsure if he is not house trained or if it is simply because he wants to be with people as much as possible.
Max is fully vaccinated but not yet neutered. He is not mature enough to be neutered and any new owner would be required to sign a neutering agreement prior to rehoming him. He has been treated for parasites and is assessed.
His adoption fee is £400 which goes directly to helping save the lives of dogs just like him.
