Trapper Duke is a 5 year old, retired, racing greyhound. A more beautiful nature you will not find.
Upon retirement Duke was taken into rescue by a greyhound rescue in England. Unfortunately a gate was accidentally left open and another dog attacked Duke. When found, he was in a desperate state and hospitalised with the vets immediately - where he received over 200 stitches to his wounds. The dog who had attacked him was completely unscathed - indicating that Duke hadn't even retaliated. :-( The rescue cared for him and nursed him back to health but after 14 months felt they wanted him to move on to then next stage in his life - a permanent loving home. Duke had some potential adoption interest at this rescue but was always rejected because of his scars.
The rescue is a wonderful organisation and although upset at seeing him leave they want the best for him. So, he arrived at Islay Dog Rescue and we all fell in love.
He is currently in foster with Izzie and is doing tremendously well. Like all greyhounds he doesn't want to walk for miles - he would be happy with 3 x 20 minute walks each day - oh and a couch to lie on!! He is very affectionate and loves a cuddle.
As with all racers, it is advisable to walk them wearing a muzzle. They have been trained to chase small furry objects therefore it is unreasonable to expect them not to hunt cats/small dogs etc.
Duke is fully vaccinated, microchipped, treated for parasites, had any dental work completed, neutered and assessed. If you are interested in adopting him please complete the application for below.
